Pēhi signed the Cook Strait (Henry Williams) sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi on 16 May 1840 at Waikanae. Henry Williams, the missionary who witnessed the treaty signing, recorded that he was a principal rangatira (chief). Pēhi may have been the uncle of Te Rauparaha.
