Te Roha signed the Waitangi sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi in the Bay of Islands, possibly on 13 May 1840. The younger brother of Te Tirarau Kūkupa and Taurau Kūkupa, Te Roha was a rangatira (chief) of Te Parawhau of the Ngāpuhi iwi (tribe). He and his brothers were recorded as giving their consent to the treaty ‘willingly’.
